About
My name is Naim Cardinal
tanisi kahkiyaw! ta-tawâw!
I am nehiyaw (Cree) and a proud member of Tallcree Tribal Government (First Nation) located in Treaty 8 territory of Alberta. I grew up in Fort Vermilion, AB. and I am now living as a guest in the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the syilx (Okanagan) Peoples in Kelowna, BC. I am the son of LaVerne and Virginia Cardinal, a husband, and dedicated father to three children. I am also an educator, hockey card collector, sports lover, and a graduate student currently working on a Doctorate of Education Degree.
I have been collecting hockey cards for 25 years beginning in 1989 until 1994 and picking it back up in 2004. After a decade of collecting hockey cards again, in 2014, I decided to focus my energy into putting together a collection of one rookie card of every NHL player of Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) descent. Since then, my collection has been dedicated to documenting and sharing the accomplishments, histories, experiences, and ancestry of each player via his website. As an educator, it is important for me to educate others about Indigenous contributions to the game of hockey, individual successes, hockey cards, and the experiences of Indigenous people in Canada with colonialism.
